Mark Upton - FdEng Motorsport Engineering
Mark is one of our second year FdEng Motorsport Engineering students. Mark is also part of the Doughnutters team which is a company set up by students, for students, and others to create opportunities to get involved with the competitive side to motorsport. They organise track days for testing racing cars and they have recieved great reviews.
Mark gets involved with marketing the events and usually marshalls on the day and helps with recovery driving.
What do you think of the lecturers at Derby?
"The lecturers are very helpful, always giving you a push in the right direction. They influence you to make your own decisions and they help you to build your confidence and develop your skills set. Overall they're very supportive."
What do you think to the facilities here at Derby?
"The facilities suit all requirements, there is everything you need and there are great plans for the future for even more excellent equipment."
What would you say to somebody thinking of coming to Derby?
"Everyone at Derby is really friendly and everyone gets on really well. There is support in all areas of personal development and Derby is in a great location and it's a really safe environment."
A mechanic for six years, he's now planning to have his own tuning shop
Mark has worked for the Historic Formula 1 racing team and he has been a mechanic for six years. He's now studying motorsport to get a step further and gain more knowledge and skills. Mark has also done 4x4 off road rallying and enjoys going to track days.
Mark ultimaltely plans to have his own tuning shop, which is a type of garage that modifies cars for competitive racing.
