About this module
Healthcare professionals are required to effectively diagnose and manage osteoporosis and falls which are increasing in significance and impact on society. Practitioners must be able to critically evaluate current practices and fully appreciate both their diagnostic and therapeutic intervention if competency and effective care is to be assured.
This module aims to provide you with an appreciation of the multi-factorial issues involved and enable you to engage and critically reflect on the identification, diagnosis, treatment and management of falls and osteoporosis and hypothesise on their future impact on the healthcare agenda and society.
The module is delivered through distance learning predominantly, supported by online resources and two study days at the university or in a suitable venue in keeping with university resources. Activities focused around work based activities and clinical scenarios will direct and encourage analysis and critical review of current and emerging issues relevant to effective falls and osteoporosis management.
Support from the module team combined with guidance in the study materials will enable you to use the module as platform for future self-directed learning and to further enhance your work-based practice. Contact will be maintained on an individual ad hoc basis via email and telephone tutorials.
