Law team proud to represent Derby at Society of Asian Lawyers Ball

8 December 2014

Our Law team were proud to represent Derby at the Society of Asian Lawyers (SAL) Awards ball at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London in November 2014.

This annual event is attended by highly established and aspiring Lawyers and our team were delighted to meet judges, barristers, solicitors and QC's. They were particularly excited to bump into Judge Rinder during the evening too!

Traditionally, lawyers from British Ethnic Minorities are celebrated and awarded for their exceptional achievements at the ball each year. Derby were the only University to attend after being invited by Zed Shah, SAL committee member SAL and also one of our Legal Mentors.

Lecturer in Law at Derby, Liz Doherty-Astle attended the event and said: "We went along to try and increase our presence in legal London and expand our network - which was a success. We have walked away with several contacts and QC’s and Barristers wanting to support our students. It has now led to shadowing opportunities being offered to students that attended. We also had the pleasure from hearing the guest speaker Mrs. Justice McGowan QC."
