Geldards Recognises Top Legal Students
21 January 2015
Two of the University of Derby’s highest achieving law students have been recognised with special awards by Derby-based law firm Geldards.
Ricky Parmar and Gregory Harris studied law at the university over the past three years and graduated with their classmates in a special ceremony at the newly opened Derby Arena on Pride Park.
Ian Thomson, a Partner in Geldards’ commercial team, presented Ricky Parmar with an award for receiving the highest marks in Commercial Law.
Ian explained: “The firm is committed to helping nurture the next generation of legal talent and we hope that these awards provide inspiration to their recipients to go on and have the long and successful legal careers of which we are sure that they are capable.”
Stephen Woolley, who recently joined Geldards as part of the firm’s acquisition of Robinsons Solicitors, presented Gregory Harris with an award for receiving the highest marks in the Law Clinic part of his course.
He said: “Robinsons had previously supported this award for a number of years and it’s good to be able to continue this support of the University with Geldards.
“It’s important to recognise outstanding academic achievement of the students and also promote the excellent legal education that the University of Derby provides hundreds of aspiring lawyers with each year.”
Scott Atkins, the University’s LLB Programme Leader & Senior Lecturer in Law, added: “Year on year the University strives to help produce the next crop of legal talent and we’re delighted that Geldards has given its support to help us recognise the fantastic achievements of our students.
“It’s a difficult time for young people looking to make their way in the working world, but hopefully the awards for Ricky and Gregory will provide them with the confidence and the platform to go on and lead the next generation of top legal talent.”
