Alana Warren, Applied Criminology and Law (Joint Honours)
My education has always been important to me and I really enjoy learning. I felt that expanding my knowledge in an industry that I found interesting would be beneficial to beginning a career path in the legal sector.
Each module is unique and each lecturer delivers their course in a different style that always proves engaging. I found the work to be stimulating and fascinating. Studying both Law and Criminology introduced me to new perspectives and ideas on various subjects from Criminal Law to Psychopathy.
A supportive network
The lecturers are extremely supportive and make themselves openly available to talk to about any problems you may have. They are always friendly and approachable and you can talk to them at ease about any difficulties you may be experiencing. Without their additional support I would never have accomplished so much in my time here. The staff deserve a great deal of praise for their dedication and caring attitude towards their students.
The Derby experience
Studying at Derby isn’t all work - it has had some wonderful fun elements. Though making friends in new surroundings is never easy; the University of Derby provides a great backdrop in which to create a social network. It is the centre of social activity and can really help you develop some fantastic relationships with people that can last throughout your time at University and beyond.
The campus has everything from doctor’s surgery, coffee shops, eateries and hairdressers. The library is also easily accessible throughout the week and has a fantastic set of extended opening hours which allow you to use it in the evenings.
A rewarding experience
The opportunity to learn at the University of Derby provided me with an amazing experience and an incredible journey. My time here has made me a stronger person and allowed me to believe in myself and in embracing the idea that you can make your dreams a reality.
Once I graduate I am hoping to pursue a career within the legal sector building on what I have learned by applying it to practical applications in the field. I would love to ultimately be able to become a Paralegal and to perform substantive legal work that will benefit the public.
My time at the University of Derby hasn’t been without its challenges but I wouldn’t change any of my experiences. Derby provides everything you need to achieve your degree with devoted staff that will help you every step of the way.
I have come a great deal further in creating a future career that I can be proud of and believe that, for a fully well rounded and enjoyable university experience in which you can feel truly accomplished, Derby is the best choice.
