Criminology Courses - Psychology, Investigation, Cybercrime

Study criminology at Derby and you won’t be just sitting in lecture theatres. Our courses offer you much more - they’re vibrant, engaging and innovative, and you’ll be developing your professional skills from day one.

Practical learning

You’ll learn how theory relates to policy and practice. Our excellent relationships with organisations working across the criminal justice system means you will be getting out and about, liaising with clients; assisting the police in public order exercises; visiting prisons and youth offender training centres. You’ll see for yourself what it takes to meet the day to day challenges of criminal justice practice.

Academic expertise

Our lecturers and guest speakers are experienced scholars who are experts in the criminal justice system. Most have worked in agencies such as the police, probation service and youth offending teams. You’ll benefit from their knowledge, experience and networks - so you’ll be learning all the skills you need to work in this area.

Groundbreaking research

Our reputation is growing and our research is cutting-edge. We work with many regional, national and international organisations on projects and training including Royal Malaysia Police, Gangmasters Licensing Authority and Nottingham City Crime and Drug Partnership. This all means you’ll be studying at a University that is at the heart of the latest developments in this field.

"The lecturers were phenomenal, always willing to go the extra mile.” Lianne Collier, Criminology graduate

An international perspective

We are committed to studying in the field. One group of students recently visited criminal justice agencies in Los Angeles and San Francisco, with highlights including visits to San Quentin State Prison and gang projects in LA, a day spent with San Francisco Police Department and the chance to meet students from California State University.
