Using external services and tools to support learning and teaching
If you choose to use external tools you will need to consider:
- Creating a work account - Keep your personal account separate from the one you use with your students you might reveal personal details about yourself by accident but using a work account avoids this. You should also make sure that someone else has access to the username and password so if you are away another member of staff can check the tool and respond to students.
- Data Security - who can access the information that you and your students post here.
- Confidentiality - of students, staff and information about the University.
- Ownership of content - some services take this when you post content to them.
- Sustainability of the service - Services may disappear or no longer be supported by the provider, archives of work and conversations may not be maintained.
- Initial and on-going costs - Ensure that any costs are included in budgets and whether these will increase if student numbers go up.
- Copyright - need to be careful to not infringe this by posting resources you do not have permission to use.
- Adding a disclaimer - let others know that "the views contained in these web pages are my personal views and do not represent the views of the University of Derby".
