We have seen a number of interesting teaching techniques used in B226. Listed below are some of our favorites, it doesn't have to be in B226 most classrooms will support these methods of teaching.

» Jigsaw Teaching

We have seen this technique used on a number of occasions in B226. Just like a jigsaw puzzle, each piece--each student's part is necessary for understanding of the final outcome.

This website is a very useful resource if you are interested in using the jigsaw technique in your lessons, it doesn't have to be in B226.

» Skills Circuits

Picture a gym with lots of zones of activities already set up, participants have to move around each zone completing the exercise. This is similar to the skills circuit teaching technique.

Place short activities around the room (on the tables).
Split the students up into small groups
Each group goes around the tables spending about 5-10 minutes at each activity
Each of the groups finding are then compared and disseminated by either presentations of peer marking.

This website is a really useful resource, it is focused at primary school English subject students, but the advice can be adapted to suit HE teaching.

» Pyramid Teaching

This method involves students working alone, then in pairs, then in fours and so on. Normally the final outcome will be for the groups to report on the findings and conclusions.
