TELNET STEM Workshop

Members of the Technology Enhanced Learning Network comprising of students from the School of Education and practising primary school teachers from across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire; undertook an exciting professional development session which combined eLearning skills with the excitement and relevance of integrated STEM activities.

During the session, groups designed, built and tested their own wind turbines, before using digital mapping software to survey the University grounds and identify the most suitable location to locate these turbines, based on the amount of energy produced and the conditions of the day.

Participants also used a range of devices throughout the session to create reflective video slideshows which furthered their understanding of how media rather than traditional techniques can be used to capture meaningful representations of learning.

The event illustrated a commitment to explore how learning can be supported in technology-rich learning spaces and an enhanced eLearning package has been created for students and teachers who wish to repeat this exercise in their own school.
