eSurvey - SurveyMonkey
What is it?
SurveyMonkey is an easy-to-use tool for the creation of online surveys. Its primary strength is its intuitive web interface, which makes it easy for even non-technical users to design surveys, collect responses, and analyse the responses of their created surveys. The results of the surveys can be shared instantly with people the user chooses.
How does it work?
Surveys can be created to cover any subject the creator wants. In design mode, SurveyMonkey offers 17 formats for asking questions (multiple choice, true false, open-ended, etc.). It also has a diverse colour palette for changing the appearance of the survey.
Respondents can be tracked so you can contact those who have not responded without pestering those who already have. SurveyMonkey can generate a range of response reports and allow you to export data into programs like MS Excel, SAS or SPSS for more complex analysis.
SurveyMonkey allows the user send out the survey via email lists or through a custom URL link on a web page, to make it easily accessible for the desired target audience.
What can I use it for?
There are many unique ways that SurveyMonkey can be used in education. A few ideas include:
- Schedule a meeting or group project
- Classroom ice-breakers
- Learning-style assessments
- Pre-test or pre-class survey
- Post-class survey
- Assessment of background knowledge
- Evaluations (student, teacher, employee, conference, presenter, etc.)
Where do I find it?
SurveyMonkey is available at www.surveymonkey.com. Contact TEL to confirm if you are able to use their existing SurveyMonkey account. If not, then you will need to sign up for a SurveyMonkey account, of which there are four standards: Basic, Select, Gold or Platinum.
A basic survey account is free and permits 100 responses per survey, however you are only allowed 10 questions per survey and many of the custom features are disabled.
