Blackboard Collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate

What is it?

Blackboard Collaborate provides a virtual classroom environment where you can deliver live content and interact with your students. These sessions can also be recorded for later viewing as a revision aid.

How does it work?

A virtual classroom environment allows you to:

Reach those distance students who have previously been given content without the aid of the contact time experienced by on campus students.

Provide sessions to students who cannot make it onto campus.

Archive sessions and discussions for the purposes of revision.

Allow students to use the virtual classroom for group work.

Quick "How To" Guide

  • Navigate to the Module Page.
  • Click  Course Tools > Blackboard Collaborate > Create Session
  • Give the session an appropriate name, select the date and time of the session and click "Submit".
  • Click on the menu option for session (double chevron facing down) and click "Add content Item".
  • Give the content item a name and select the area that you wish it to appear in.
  • Click "Submit".
Navigate to the area that you selected and click on the link to the session. You will be prompted to download something, select yes and then open the downloaded item.
  • Collaborate should now appear. If this does not happen, then you have most likely not got Java installed on your machine. For further assistance contact IT services.
