Communicating with Announcements
The Announcements area is your student's entry point into the module.
Remind students of deadlines, timetable changes and updated content.
”The prominence of being the module entry point makes posting an Announcement an extremely useful mechanism of communication. If you want to remind students of important practical information (deadlines, room changes) or alert them to updates you have made to your module, you should place that information here.
You can also add a link to a specific area, tool, folder, or piece of content in an Announcement, directing students efficiently to the current task at hand.
Announcements can be permanent or non-permanent. Permanent announcements always appear at the top of the 'home' page. Non-permanent announcements appear below any permanent announcements, with the most recent addition appearing first.
- To meet the Threshold Standards we must make sure that we regularly post announcements to our modules and encourage students to be aware of our intention to do so. We must also make sure that a 'Welcome' announcement is present for when our students first log onto the module. This announcement should include a brief description about what our students should expect during their time on the module, your role and what you expect from your students.
- We must also make sure that a Welcome Announcement is posted to the Programme Announcements area within a Programme. This task will usually be carried out by the Programme Leader.
The following video will take you through the process of adding an announcement.
