Threshold Standards
The University of Derby is committed to embedding Technology Enhanced Learning in all programmes and modules where it will enhance the students' learning experience.
This website has been developed to support the achievement of Threshold Standards in the use of the University's Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard and to promote continuing improvements in the use of learning technology. To ascertain whether or not you are fulfilling the requirements of these standards begin using this resource by clicking on Meeting the Threshold Standards.
From September 2011 there will be :
- a set of Threshold Standards at the University to ensure a degree of uniformity of student experience across modules, based on existing good practice of student usability;
- improved provision of advice for Continuing Improvements in the use of web technologies to allow a planned year-on-year improvement of all modules.
Because the Threshold Standards are a requirement from September, this web resource has been developed to support tutors in meeting them. We recognise that many tutors are already meeting and exceeding the standards and we continue to encourage and support that additional development and adoption of Technology Enhanced Learning.
If you feel that you're meeting the Threshold Standard then we suggest that you work through the four broad strands of continuing improvements that have been emphasised in the University's use of web technologies. These four strands are:
- Improving student induction
- Improving active learning
- Improving learning content
- Improving assessment and feedback
These pages provide detailed advice in the form of:
- Videoed testimonial interviews with lecturers who have used new learning technologies and who you can contact for advice;
- technical advice about how to use any technologies;
- contact details of those able to help you;
- templates and other widgets to reduce your work in getting started.
