Managing Extensions

When marking it is useful to know if any of your students have any Exceptional Extenuating Circumstances (EEC) or Assessed Extended Deadline (AED).

The following guidance is to support staff in managing the EEC and AED process with regard to e-Submission

Where do I find out who has an EEC or AED?

For EEC's: The EEC Panel Secretary is now aware of all applications for EEC's and will be able to produce module specific reports for distribution to the programme/module teams. To find out who your panel secretary is please contact your Faculty Office.

For AED's: Use the AED tool available in Course Resources. This tool shows you which students have Assessed Extended Deadlines on your module.

Using the AED Tool

To find information on the length of the deadline you will need to go to PeopleSoft, which can be accessed by all academic staff.

Additionally a report has been sent to disability coordinators that shows students, by module code, who have Assessed Extended Deadlines with the length of the extensions i.e. SW1 3 weeks = Course work, 3 weeks extension. If you need further clarification about who your disability coordinator is please contact your Faculty Office.

Where and how do students submit their work?

Once the due date for the standard e-Submission point has been reached, staff will need to create a further submission point for EEC's and AED's. You should clearly label this submission point, For example:

Assignment One (EEC & AED)
This submission point is only for students with an approved EEC's and AED's only

By doing this students with EEC's and AED's will be able to submit as many times as they wish to benefit from the originality report produced by Turnitin. Set the assignment close date at least 6 months in advance to avoid any issues with multiple submissions. You will be able to set the post date (the point at which the student can view their feedback) at any point during that period.
