ESubmission

Student on computer

eSubmission is the process of submitting assignments electronically online. It allows the student to submit a digital copy of their work and for academics to retrieve student's work in their own time through Course Resources. As more students produce digital work it is important to provide them with a way to submit this for assessment quickly and easily. Technology allows us to do this integrating the submission and feedback process within systems familiar to the student like Course Resources.

Why would I use technology to aid submission?

  • Students do not need to come to campus to submit their work
  • Text based submissions run through TurnitinUK to create an originality report
  • Submission is automatically receipted

How do I use technology to do this?

The technology you use to provide students to submit their work electronically will depend upon the format of the submission. If it is predominately text based then TurnitinUk in Blackboard accepts text based formats such as Word documents and PDF. However if the work is a presentation, audio, video or image based file then you will need to use the Course Resources assignment tool.

The majority of eSubmission points will be set up using TurnitinUK in Blackboard. For this reason the resources provided here have been tailored to support this approach. We have written some generic text which can be added and customised for module handbooks you might also find the guidance on managing extensions and multiple markers helpful as this will inform how some of the submission areas are set up. If you ever have problems accessing the system take a look at the What can I do if I can't access the system? page, this will guide you through the process of getting help. Support for students can be found at www.derby.ac.uk/esub. This helps to explain the eSubmission process and provides information on where students need to go to get help.

If after looking at the resources provided here you still have questions about eSubmission first take a look at the FAQ page but if you still cannot find the answer please feel free to contact us or consider attending a staff development session on eSubmission. If you would like to know more about the eSubmission project run in 2011/12 then take a look at the project pages.
