» Why is the University moving to a 20 credit framework?
This is a strategic decision by the Executive in response to the rapidly changing Higher Education environment and the increased emphasis that this places on our need to deliver a high quality learning experience for our students.
» When does the approval process have to be completed by?
The revised programmes are to be approved during the 2011-12 Academic Year ready for a September 2012 start.
» Are there any exceptions?
Yes, but all exceptions must be approved by the PVC and supported by a clear rationale and transition arrangements. From September 2015 the University will have no remaining 15 credit modules. A list of all programmes currently exempt from the process are listed in the 20 Credit Exception Register. The Register provides detailed information on the transition arrangements.
» How are we communicating the changes to our students?
A communication plan for students is in place and includes a range of activities to ensure that students are fully informed about the process. The communication plan is included in the 20 Credit Framework Approval Schedule.
» How are we communicating the changes to external examiners?
A letter from Executive has been sent by the Faculties to all external examiners explaining the reasons for the move to 20 credits.
» How are we communicating the changes to our collaborative partners?
A letter from Executive has been sent by the Faculties to their collaborative partners explaining the reasons for the move to 20 credits. It also stresses the importance of the consultation process between programme teams at the University and their partners. Feedback from partners on the proposal needs to be captured on the Collaborative Partner Feedback on 20 Credit Implementation template.
» What do programme teams need to consider in the move to 20 credits?
To support programme teams in working through the shape of their 20 credit programmes and the modules that they will contain, Executive have produced guidance on the principles that are to be followed during the conversion process.
» What is happening about the transitional arrangements?
In parallel with the approval process, the University's Regulatory Framework Committee is currently working through a number of proposed changes to the University's academic regulations to address the transitional arrangements arising from the move to the 20 credit framework.
These include arrangements for retaking modules, changes to credit requirements for those awards that do not currently align with the 20 credit framework and APL credit allowance for postgraduate qualification. All proposals will be formally considered and approved by Academic Board.

» What form will the approval panels take?
A standing panel of the Faculty Quality Enhancement Committee (FQEC) consisting of the Dean (Chair), Assistant Dean (Quality), Faculty Curriculum Development Manager (FCDM), Faculty Operations Manager (FOM), a senior representative from the School, an LEI representative (as indicated on the 20 Credit Framework Approval Schedule), an external panel member, and where appropriate, a Joint Honours representative and/or a representative from collaborative partners will approve programmes.
