The new QAA Quality Code for Learning and Teaching
Tuesday 11th December (1.00 - 3.30)
Dr. Mark Atlay is the Director of Teaching and Learning at The University of Bedfordshire. Mark spent seven years lecturing in chemistry at the University of Glamorgan before moving on to work on the development of distance learning materials at the Open University. In 2003 he led the HEFCE Good Management Practice project (GMP201) on Effecting Change in Higher Education. This resource was developed through talking to those involved in change processes in the higher education sector about what mattered to them and how they viewed change. Within his own institution in Bedfordshire, Mark has coordinated the development and implementation of the University's curriculum model involving a revised approach to skills development linked to progress files and personal development planning (PDP). Between 2005 and 2010 Mark was a CETL director heading up the prestigious 'bridges' project at the University of Bedfordshire.
Session Outline
This session will focus on the Learning and Teaching element of the new QAA UK Quality code for Higher Education. The UK Quality Code is the definitive reference point for all UK Higher Education providers making clear what Higher Education providers are required to do, what they can expect of each other and what the general public can expect of them. In essence, it protects the interests of all UK Higher Education students. The Learning and Teaching element of the UK code will be carefully examined during this session.
Follow up sessions
This is the final session of the semester 1 programme; however, the semester 2 academic practice programme will include further sessions that focus on aspects of the new QAA Quality Code for Higher Education.
