Supporting International Students
Wednesday 14th November (1.00 - 3.30)
Presented by Markus Klingelfuss (Staffordshire University)
Markus Klingelfuss is a senior lecturer in the Staffordshire University Business School. During his time in Higher Education Markus has worked tirelessly with international students, particularly in the area of English language and study skills support. Markus has been very much involved in ESOL testing and support and has also assisted international students in social, professional and academic cultural adaptation.
Session Outline
This session will provide participants with a generic overview of many issues that impact on international students during their time in UK Higher Education. There will be a particular focus on how tutors might support international students during their studies and how we might better understand their cultural dilemmas.
Follow up sessions
The next session in this programme on Thursday 22nd November will follow up on issues from today's event and change the emphasis to international students at the UoD. Suzanne Wigley and her team have much data from the international student body here at the UoD with some interesting food for thought for future practice.
