Professor Liz Barnes

Professor Liz Barnes

Wednesday 6th February (1.00 - 3.30)

Professor Liz Barnes joined the University of Derby as Pro Vice-Chancellor in February 2010 and has the strategic lead for learning and teaching, quality enhancement and employer engagement. Liz was previously at the University of Teesside where she was Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Law and where she led a 2 year university wide project on 'Managing Diversity'. In terms of research, Liz has focused her interests around Higher Education and more specifically around the student learning experience, workforce development and e-learning.

Session Outline

This session will explore the impact of the online academic journal and the increased opportunities for publication that have resulted from the unprecedented growth in this area of provision. There will also be a focus on the open access agenda and how this emergent area of the publication arena is increasing outputs and making research findings available to a wider audience. The structure, anatomy and scope of a contemporary academic journal will also come under scrutiny in a session that will be of interest to early career researchers and experienced academics alike.

Follow up sessions

This session has a broad focus and many sessions from the semester 2 Academic Practice Programme will follow up on relatable issues. Some suggestions are included below.
