About this module
There is currently considerable emphasis on the need for good leadership and management within health services, especially in relation to quality and commissioning in a competitive environment. This module aims to enable you to make a positive contribution to these developments in your own area of practice and within the wider organisation, using your learning to influence at a local level.
The module covers all the key elements of leadership and management with ongoing application of theory to contemporary practice. These range from broad topics such as the theoretical development of leadership and management to specific applications such as change, conflict and negotiation. These are explored in the context of the new commissioning environment and the implications for service providers.
The module is delivered mainly through interactive lectures that include group work and some self-assessment activities. There is also some guided e-learning. An external speaker with a considerable amount of experience in commissioning health care services contributes specialist expertise with current examples and also facilitates a workshop.
The assignment requires you to choose an appropriate topic, write a brief report on this then critically evaluate the leadership and management issues, thus applying your learning to your area of practice.
