Zara studied LL.B (Hons) at Derby

I'm currently employed as a Caseworker at VOICE UK

In my final year of my law degree for my dissertation, I read into various aspects of vulnerable peoples' access to the criminal justice system. I was delighted to put this knowledge into use when an opportunity arose to take on a full time post at VOICE UK, as the helpline Caseworker for victims of sexual assault.

My role

As Caseworker I provide a source of support to vulnerable victims who have been sexually assaulted or abused, with the aim of getting justice for things that have happened to them.  Vulnerable people such as this are still being faced with not having their cases sufficiently investigated or taken to court.

My position has been funded by the Home Office Victims Fund

I advocate on behalf of vulnerable victims via the helpline, email and home visits. I offer support, advice and information about their legal rights, relevant policies and measures that should be applied. I also offer specialist support and advice to professional workers and advocates, directly supporting vulnerable victims of sexual assault.

Through supporting vulnerable victims and their families, I also hope to foster their confidence in the Criminal Justice System. By informing professionals working within the Criminal Justice System on the specific needs and capabilities of vulnerable victims of sexual assault, I'm helping to make them more aware that vulnerable people can also be reliable as witnesses, where they are appropriately supported.

Looking to the future

I'm looking forward to working in partnership, and to facilitate more just outcomes for vulnerable people.
