Trevor Austin - LL.B
Trevor won The Alpheus John Robotham Prize (For Exceptional Contribution to University Life) for 2009. He is studying LL.B (Hons).
Winning the award
It comes as a great surprise to win this award. I feel that I am only one part of the machine that allows my fellows to make the most of the seemingly short time that we have here at Derby.
Studying at Derby
My course at Derby has pushed me academically, and its opened new doors in my thinking that I had not known to have existed. It has also afforded me a great opportunity to enhance my skills portfolio. Being elected Treasurer of the students' Law society for 2008-9 and 2009-10, I've had the opportunity to organize a number of trips and other events for my fellow students, along with the rest of the Law Society Committee.
I've also been able to branch out and explore other possibilities, and was elected as Democracy Officer for the Students' Union in March. Through this position I've been able to offer the wider student body direct access to their elected representatives, by organizing a debate amongst candidates for the European Parliamentary Elections in May 2009, and a series of "Democracy Days" where my fellow students can come and grill the candidates for the Parliamentary Elections in 2010.
