Sharanda Humes - LL.B
Sharanda studied the LL.B (Hons) and is currently working as a trainee Barrister in the Bahamas.
My pupillage
I'm currently half way through my pupillage as a trainee Barrister at C.F. Butler and Associates Law Chambers in the Bahamas. I meet with clients, attend court and conduct legal research in preparation for legal matters.
I learnt a variety of skills while studying my LL.B at Derby, which I now use in my new job, such as legal research and communication.
Preparing me for my future career
The staff were really supportive and I found the Career Development Centre to be wonderful when preparing me for my future career. But most importantly, the course was well structured making it easy for me to understand the content and what was expected of me as a student.
Legal Context and Skills module was really interesting, as it was practice based and prepared me for my Bar Professional Training Course and working life. There were a variety of guest lecturers, events and careers sessions during my time at Derby. We had guests in from industry coming in to talk to us about the variety of careers within the legal profession.
Finishing my degree
The most rewarding part of the course was graduating knowing that I had accomplished something special. I would recommend Derby, as I had a great experience studying there.
