Penny Home - LL.B
Penny won The Smith Partnership Award for the Best part-time LL.B (Hons) Student for 2009.
Winning the award
I was pleased and honoured to win such a prestigious award, especially as I'd heard about the award during my first year and known one of the previous recipients.
Why Derby?
I chose Derby because the School of Law and Criminology offers degree courses which are flexible and so I could fit my studies around my other commitments. The law degree also came highly recommended as being stimulating and innovative. The lecturers are excellent and the university has some really good facilities including an extensive resource centre. I achieved a first class honours degree.
Looking to the future
I believe my degree will stand me in good stead for the new career path I've chosen.
I'm presently studying the LLM at Derby and I'm finding what I've learned on the LL.B to be very useful to this. I'm planning to finish the LLM, complete an LPC, and then get a training contract and become a solicitor.
My advice
I would say to come to Derby to study law. The course is interesting, challenging, stimulating and innovative with excellent library facilities both on and off campus. The lecturers are fantastic and not only teach, but offer considerable support.
