About the Miscarriages of Justice Team
Julia Giaramita - Director of MOJ
I am extremely pleased to be part of this venture. For many years I have incorporated cases of miscarriages of justice into relevant degree courses, with the intention of better equipping students who go on to build careers in the criminal justice sector and to reduce the prevalence of wrongful convictions

MOJ@UOD Aims
- Review claims of wrongful convictions due to errors of fact, as a consequence of for example:
- Inefficient investigations.
- Non-disclosure of evidence.
- Misleading expert evidence.
- False confessions.
- Bring justice to victims of injustice by investigating the safety of the conviction.
- Discover fresh evidence, or raise new arguments, which provide a real possibility that a Court of Appeal would quash a conviction.
- Refer cases of merit to the relevant legal body.
