Working with professionals to enhance your learning

You will benefit from our strong links with industry and authorities through regular guest speakers on a wide variety of subjects, and practitioners will teach you in certain areas, enhancing your learning and application.

Learn from the experts

Michael King has 30 years' service as a Detective Constable with Derbyshire Constabulary. He works with us on our criminology modules covering several subjects, including criminal investigation, witnesses and victims and sexual offences.

Michael uses his vast experience, which includes periods working as an investigator in the Child Abuse Unit and as an online paedophile investigator on the Hi-Tech Crime Unit, to support the theoretical knowledge he's teaching.

This combination of academic knowledge with practical policing will help you to develop a rounded, balanced view of the ever changing role of investigators and the demands and restrictions placed upon them.

Detective Superintendent Ivar Fahsing works regularly with our criminology students to share his experiences of working as a homicide detective for Oslo Police District Criminal Division and the NCIS, as well as being an expert witness.

His current position is at the Norwegian Police University College where he specialises in teaching general police investigation, investigative interviewing, forensic psychology and the investigation of organised crime and terrorism.

Ivar's recent talk about how detectives think attracted a large audience. It examined, from a psychological perspective, the theoretical basis for detectives' practices and illustrated the practical relevance of the theory when applied to real world crime investigations.
