Law Skills Triathlon
- Wednesday 27 February 2013
- Kedleston Road
Every year the Derby and District Law Society in association with the School of Law and Criminology stage the Law Skills Triathlon where entrants compete for the Jubilee Award.
Improve your essential skills in a realistic setting
This event has received high praise from all quarters including the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
It's a unique and exciting opportunity to practice and hone your legal skills in a realistic and competitive setting alongside trainees from local practices.
What does it involve?
Seven of our LL.B students are paired with seven trainee solicitors to form seven teams who compete in a one day Law Skills Triathlon.
The teams compete in three areas of interviewing, negotiation and advocacy. This involves conducting a client interview, making a court application and participating in a negotiation meeting based on materials provided. (Details of the relevant law for the advocacy part are provided on the day)
Lateral thinking and skills performance are the order of the day as opposed to knowledge of a particular area of law!
A panel of local practitioners and law lecturers judge the event and we award prizes for:
- Best Team Overall (The Jubilee Award)
- Outstanding Individual Advocate
- Outstanding Individual Interviewer
- Outstanding Individual Negotiator
