The best place to do law

Rob Cheeseman

The School fulfils not merely an educational, but also a significant social function, in that it provides a truly student-centred and supportive environment.

What's Derby's Law School really like?

Come and see for yourself!

The best way to get to know what we're like is to come and see us for yourself. Come to an open day where you can chat to lecturers and students and see all of our facilities.

What our students say

Of course, the people who really know us are our students. We've consistently been voted one of the top law schools in the UK in the National Student Survey.

League tables

The UK Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE) suggests you might first look at the Guardian league tables. Derby is ranked in the top half overall but, importantly, is:

  • First for teaching
  • Second for assessment and feedback
  • Third for value added

External reviews

The latest report by quality inspectors described us as having a "vibrant learning" environment and praised our employability, student ethos and the quality of our work.

External examiners praise our teaching, learning and assessment methods, as well as our support for student learning.

We maintain a large bank of external examiners to independently verify our standards. They're appointed for their subject expertise and standing and balance 'old' universities with 'new' ones to get insights from across the sector.
