Alisha Harris - LLM (Commercial Law)
Alisha is currently studying the LLM (Commercial Law) after recently completing the LL.B (Hons).
The LLM helps me stand out
I choose to study the LLM as it gave me the chance to specialise and gain a better understanding of the legal world and profession. I felt that I needed that little bit more to help distinguish me from the thousands of other law graduates looking for work. In addition to this, I felt that the masters would help me to continue to gain those essential research skills that are so vital in industry.
Unique modules
I have studied a range of modules which have all been interesting in their own unique way. I feel that modules such as Legal Scholarship help to give you that extra bit of knowledge that you need in order to be successful in postgraduate law.
One of the most interesting modules for me has been the Business Crime option. This has allowed me to study crimes such as fraud and money laundering. I feel that these are subjects which are very important to be aware of in industry as they are occurring at an increasing rate.
Supportive staff
The staff are very helpful, informative and have been incredibly supportive throughout my time here. Any worries or queries I may have can be solved very simply by talking to the lecturers as they are very approachable and are happy to help where they can.
Flexible career choices
There is a lot of work involved in the completion of the masters. However, the knowledge gained and the ability to continue to explore areas of law which you personally find interesting is definitely worth the stress.
The knowledge gained within the masters provides me with the opportunity to either practice in industry or continue further on my studies should I decide to continue on the academic route.
I feel that undertaking a masters degree has allowed me to build my confidence in specific legal fields whilst also allowing me to enhance the researching skills which I have gained through my undergraduate studies.
