Matt studied a joint honours degree and now plays for Prestatyn Town football club

The course triggered my interest into fitness and health and was the catalyst to becoming a qualified personal trainer which I combine with my career as a professional footballer

Matt studied a joint honours degree in Sports Studies with Strength and Conditioning.

Why study a joint honours degree?

"Since studying for my joint honours degree I have successfully pursued a career as a professional footballer playing for Macclesfield Town and Prestatyn Town football clubs.

In my opinion, studying Sports Studies along with Strength and Conditioning gave me a broader knowledge and expertise within the sports and exercise industry, therefore providing me with a number of employment pathways to take. It triggered my interest into fitness and health and was the catalyst to becoming a qualified personal trainer which I combine with my career as a professional footballer".

A dream career

Charles Spring, Programme Leader for Sports at the University of Derby Buxton said: "Matt has proved that students can study whilst continuing to pursue their dreams. He was a good student who worked hard and has reaped the rewards.

Matt's keen to pass on his football skills and passion to others; he manages an adult Sunday league club, trains local youngsters and is also a fully qualified personal trainer. "
