Edward studied a joint honours degree in English and Creative Writing, and has received great success with his first critically acclaimed novel, Blackmoor, which was short listed for the 2008 Dylan Thomas Prize for young writers, and won the 2009 Desmond Elliot Prize.

'Clearly a writer to watch'

Edward graduated in 2001 with a first, and The Independent's Peter Carty has said that he is 'Clearly a writer to watch'.

"My lecturer on the Creative Writing course, Moy McCrory, was a very influential figure in my studies. I really enjoyed my time at the University of Derby."

Recently, Edward visited the University and shared the secrets of his success as part of a masterclass to students on his old course. He said: "It's great to be back where I did so much of my early writing and to see the lecturers and writers who taught me. I've enjoyed meeting current students who are today's up and coming writers, they're in safe hands."
