When you've accepted our offer of a place on a course you will need to plan your journey
It's a good idea to do this as far in advance as possible as the earlier you book, the cheaper tickets for your journey to the UK will be.
Remember to check whether your course is based at Derby or Buxton before you plan your journey.
If you are coming to the UK for the first time, we provide a meet and greet service and orientation programme to help you settle in. Our meet and greet service means you have the luxury of having someone from the University pick you up from the airport and take you to your accomodation. Below is information on how best to reach the University when travelling independently. If you are travelling independently please still provide us with your information by using the meet and greet booking form to enable us to keep in contact with you to keep you.
Buying train tickets
If you're travelling by train, always buy your ticket before getting on the train. If there's no ticket office at the station when you catch the train, you will need to buy one on the train.
You can buy train tickets in advance online - they can be cheaper than if you buy them on the day that you are travelling.
Booking your taxi or minibus
You can travel from the airport to Derby by taxi or minibus.

From East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport is the closest airport to Derby and it's very easy to reach the city from there.
There are regular direct flights to Nottingham East Midlands Airport from all over Europe.
From the airport you can catch the Skylink bus from the airport directly to Derby city centre.
You can then take a taxi to your accommodation.
From Birmingham International Airport
Birmingham International Airport is also convenient for Derby.
From the airport, take the train to Derby - you may have to change at Birmingham New Street. When you get to Derby, you can take a taxi from Derby station directly to your accommodation.
From London Heathrow Airport

By train
Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington station, and change there for Kings Cross/St Pancras underground station. From there, follow signs to St Pancras railway station.
There is a direct rail service from London St Pancras to Derby.
When you get to Derby, you can take a taxi from Derby station directly to your accommodation.
By coach
There are regular National Express airport coach services between London Heathrow terminals and Derby.
You can then take a taxi from Derby Coach Station to your accommodation.
From London Gatwick Airport
By train
Take the Gatwick Express to Victoria station, and change there for Kings Cross/St Pancras underground station. From there, follow signs to St Pancras railway station.
There is a direct rail service from London St Pancras to Derby.
When you get to Derby, you can take a taxi from Derby station directly to your accommodation.
By coach
There are regular National Express airport coach services between London Gatwick terminals and Derby.
You can then take a taxi from Derby Coach Station to your accommodation.
From Manchester Airport
There are a number of rail routes you can use from Manchester Airport to Derby, depending on the time of day.
You may have to travel via another station, depending on the time you arrive.
When you get to Derby you can take a taxi from Derby station directly to your accommodation.
From Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport
You can catch the 707 shuttle bus from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Doncaster train station.
The bus leaves the airport every 30 minutes.
From Doncaster train station you can get a train directly to Derby.
By car

You will need a car parking permit to park your car at our halls of residence, so make sure you've completed the Car Parking Permit Application Form that we will email to you with your offer of a room.

From Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport is the nearest and most convenient airport if you're studying at our Buxton Campus.
You can take a train from Manchester Airport station to Manchester Piccadilly, and change there for Buxton.
Or you can catch the Skyline 199 bus from Manchester Airport directly to Buxton. The bus leaves the airport every 30 minutes.
Our hall of residence is only a short taxi ride away from Buxton station.
From Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport
You can catch the 707 shuttle bus from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Doncaster train station.

From Doncaster train station you can get a train to Buxton - you will need to change trains at Stockport train station.
From Birmingham International Airport

From London Heathrow Airport
