Kinga Sobiak
Hello, my name is Kinga Sobiak and I am from Poland
I am doing a degree in Travel and Tourism Management BA Hons. I started my course two years ago.
What I like the most about the University is that it is so friendly and safe
Everyone is helpful with all the queries and you feel they really care about you.
There are staff that help with all kind of problems - from filling in forms to finding a job.
Derby is a great city to go out and have fun
And it is so close to the airport, journeys back home are not tiring and long.
There is always something going on here, people are tolerant and friendly so you settle in here pretty quickly.
There is so much the University offers I can never get bored
I enjoy meeting with friends and attend some of the dance classes with other students.
Afterwards, we are usually going to one of the students' bars for a nice meal.
There is an opportunity to set up new societies and groups and continue hobbies from the origin country.
I also go on trips organised by the International Students' Society, exchange views and experiences with other students.
England has just exceeded my all expectation and it still does
People who I met in Derby have so appealing lifestyle I cannot stop being impressed by the British culture, history and the way they live.
Before I came to England my colleagues back home were telling me many stereotypes about Britain and I can honestly deny all of them.
I was afraid at first that I will not make any friends but believe me it goes easier than you think!
Studying in Poland is much different than here
Derby offers much more courses to study so I could choose my dream course.
Also lecturers and tutors are more keen to help with any problems and you contact them via email or meet them in their offices.
My favourite difference is that all the lectures are available on my online student account so I do not have to worry if I do not manage to note everything.
I would suggest to...
Stop worrying and start applying to become a student at the University of Derby!
It is very helpful to come visit the University at the open days and ask as many questions as needed to ensure yourself that it is the greatest choice of you life!
