Justyna Duchowska

Hello, my name is Justyna Duchowska and I come from Poland

Justyna Duchowska

I am a January starter and I am doing my first year in an undergraduate course at Derby. I chose BA (Hons) Education Studies and have really enjoyed it so far.

I chose the University of Derby because somebody recommended it to me

I think it was a great decision because I was made to feel very welcome when I first came for the induction day.

In addition, everybody was really helpful and tried to help in all aspects.

I think the university is well-equipped

The Learning Centre has everything you need for studying.

During my course I was introduced to Erasmus exchange programme - you can take part in on your second year of study. The aim of this scheme is to take part in universities exchange eg going to Holland for a half semester to gain some more experience. In addition, to this I am sure it is a lot of fun as well.

I am going to try to get a placement next academic year

The lecture hours are very flexible, usually mornings or evening, so I can have a part time job.

In addition, I am employed with Student Employment Agency at the University so there are some little jobs I can do through the week days or weekends.

I used to live in London, so when I first moved to Derby I found this place very quiet and peaceful

However, it does not mean boring.

The city centre is full of clubs and pubs. In addition, there is a huge shopping centre with loads of stores and restaurant where you can eat cheaply. As well as this there is a large cinema.

Currently, I live in halls and share a flat with four other girls

We all come from different backgrounds. However, it is a great experience when you can learn about somebody’s culture and traditions.

I had a chance to try many various dishes and learned how to cook them.

I believe living in England has taught me how to be more tolerant to people and get along with them

I really enjoy being here and gaining more experience throughout my university work and everyday life.

I would advise everybody from my home country to take an opportunity to study in England. You can significantly improve the language and meet new people from around the world.
