My name is Euphemia Mwansa Chipalo and I come from Zambia in Africa
I am a first year student in Human Resource Management and Law (Joint Honours).
The University of Derby has a unique environment that accommodates diverse cultures
It offers a variety of courses that anyone can choose to study.
All academic interests are catered for and that is why I feel comfortable doing my studies here
After doing my A levels in London I had been looking on the internet for a January start university so that I can prepare my finances, and where I can continue my studies in Human Resource Management combined with Law.
I came across Derby University which offers Joint Honours studies and a January start.
I am happy with my course of study
Because with the HR background, I am able to relate legal matters to employment matters.
I did not know what would be in store for me when I decided to move to Derby from London
But I have grown to appreciate the peaceful and quiet environment that I have found.
It is less stressful and helps concentrate more on studies.
Having lost my father two weeks after I travelled to England last year, I was also looking for a city where the cost of living would enable me continue my studies and I found Derby to be just that.
Because of the peaceful and quiet atmosphere, I enjoy taking walks in the many parks all over the city and mostly I enjoy shopping in Westfield shopping mall which has a number of lovely shops.
Being in England has given me the opportunity to learn new things
I think the English are lovely people except a few who are still living in the days of master and servant and can't look at everyone as human.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with amazing people that have been very helpful in my daily living experience in England.
Compared to my country in Africa, education is at the disposal of those that want to get educated.
The work culture is different - even as a student you can find some work to look after yourself, and you can go out and have fun with friends.
I would advise people who want to come for studies to come to the University of Derby because it offers a variety of courses that are not offered by most other universities and life in Derby is affordable, peaceful and pleasant.
