Emhemmad Albeckay
My name Emhemmad Albeckay and I come from Libya
I am currently studying for a Doctorate in Education.
I believe my thirst for knowledge is set to pay dividends for future generations in my homeland
I am developing a critical reading tool, a teachers' support pack, with structured exercises and workshop ideas to help Libyan students in the classroom learn more about the English language.
I am now in my third year, and I thoroughly enjoy studying at Derby
I am the students’ representative of the Faculty of Education, Health and Sciences, and this role involves me representing students’ opinions relating to their courses, and their studying experiences at the University.
I found the open day very useful
I found the open day very useful, as it provided me with the ideal opportunity not only to see the University campus, but also meet the academic staff and other postgraduate students.
My most difficult challenge was the writing style
One of the most difficult challenges I faced was becoming accustomed to the academic writing style required and learning to read at a Doctorate level, but with the assistance of my supervisors this was something I was able to overcome.
I did not face any difficulties living in a quiet place like Derby
I come from an area of the world famed for its desert region, where it is always quiet and safe to live.
With standard summer temperatures of 40˚C in the Sahara, the main difference I have found is the comparison with the English summer.
Even though I come from a different cultural background, I did not face any problems in obtaining Arabic and Islamic food.
I have also found the people in Derby very friendly and welcoming.
I found Derby a spectacularly beautiful city
I like it as it is cultured and vibrant, and full of quirky and popular places to visit, including the Cathedral and its Peregrine falcons.
I always go with my family for picnics and to relax in the beautiful countryside which surrounds Derby.
