Darcia Jeneve Wilkinson
A Jamaican Woman's Dream
by H D Carberry
We have neither summer nor winter
Neither autumn nor spring.
We have instead the days
When the gold sun shines on the lush green canefields -
Magnificently.
The days when the rain beats like bullets on the roofs
And there is no sound but the swish of water in the gullies
And trees struggling in the high Jamaica winds.
Also there are the days when leaves fade from off guango trees
And the reaped canefields lie bare and fallow to the sun.
But best of all there are the days when the mango and the
logwood blossom
When the bushes are full of the sound of bees and the scent of
honey,
When the tall grass sways and shivers to the slightest breath of
air,
When the buttercups have paved the earth with yellow stars
And beauty comes suddenly and the rains have gone.
My name is Darcia Jeneve Wilkinson and I'm from Jamaica
It seems just when life gets hectic, even more wonderful opportunities rear their beautiful heads.
I research and research and there at the University of Derby is MSc Strategic Information Technology Management (Online). There it is, I thought. I love strategic management and information technology is my baby. I think I got it!
I was blessed to have been selected.
On 28 September 2008, I began the journey that would change my life forever
I did not understand much of what was happening, but with the guidance of my course adviser Richard Self who made the challenge of enrolment seem effortless. He answered my every call which he knew was a question and he never seems tired. He always ends with "Cheers".
There is so much support from the online team
You cannot tell me that I am not there!
I get emails daily advising me of upcoming events.
At times I brag to my fellow co-workers. I tell them, " I attend Derby and I am proud."
The support that is received from lecturers is more than it's worth and everything always seems effortless.
The website is my gateway to school and with every click, information is at my finger tip.
I never at once felt like a distance or online student and Derby is always in my home, at work, wherever I decided to access my email or decide to do some reading.
How could I forget to mention the payment plan which many of us never dreamt would be so flexible
And yeah some of us are still unable to find it on time, but because of the type of support that is provided, how could I not.
So yeah, "any whe mi fi find de money, fi pay, mi go look it." Any way I am to find the money I ensured the school fees are paid.
Oh dear, how could I forget the most important thing, the curriculum
I feel proud I am one of two persons in my region pursuing this degree, I am marketable and I am proud to be apart of this wonderful dream. Why not be a part of this dream too.
