Anthi Soteriou

Hello, my name is Anthi Soteriou and I'm from Cyprus

Anthi Soteriou

I am a first year student studying Joint Honours Hospitality and Events Management.

Going to a place you've never visited before is a big challenge

Without having any people that you know near you or people that you feel comfortable with.

Without a clue what you are going to face, with what kind of people you are going to hang out with.

Making new friends from other countries and getting to know other ways of living and cultures is really exciting

Studying Hospitality and Events Management means that I am always with people and that is what makes my studies exciting.

Events are organised in Buxton by students from my course and that is really exciting. Something that I couldn’t do in my country while I was a student there.

Buxton is a beautiful place to live

Fresh air, peaceful and quiet which is important for a student, friendly people, nice Sundays out in the centre of the town, shopping, cocktail bars and mostly the beautiful Pavilion Gardens where you can go to have fun with your friends, play football, cycling, jogging and have a picnic also if you want to.

In my spare time I like going there, when it is sunny, and do my homework or play with my friends.

Pooles Cavern is an exciting place to visit also and take many photos and send them back home.

When I came to England I was very excited about that green colour that was all over the UK

Everything is green, fresh air that opens your mind and spirit and makes you think clearer.

Each city has its own style and way of living

I’ve been to Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, London, Blackpool, and to Stockport. Buxton is in the middle of all these places and transport here in UK is really easy to get used to it.

Something I found difficult to get used to was the weather

In Cyprus it is always sunny. Of course through my time here I got used to that also.

Derby has a lot to give to its students

Knowledge, experience and fun. It combines all the three major things for a student and a future graduate. The University is really close to the hall of residence also so there is no need to spend extra money and effort for transport but you can walk for five or ten minutes and you will be there, which means you don’t have to get up early in the morning to catch the bus or train.
