Hello, my name is Tzu-Yun Yang. I am currently studying a Masters degree in International Hospitality Management at the University of Derby, Buxton.

I found out about the University of Derby through an agency in Taiwan. Before I arrived in Buxton, I did two years of work experience in Taiwan which helped me decide to pursue further education abroad. I felt this would help me in developing my future career and also increase my international knowledge.

What is life in Buxton like?

Monday

I wake up at about 8am and jog to the Pavilion Gardens before breakfast. I don't have any lectures on a Monday, so I regularly go to the library to do my assignments and look at the lessons planned for the week

Tuesday-Thursday

I usually have lectures which means I often get up early. After lectures I always go to the library, spend time with my friends and we learn from each others experiences. My friends and I leave the University around 6pm to eat dinner together in a nearby restaurant or pub.

Friday

I go to the supermarket to do my food shopping with friends and then we make several international dishes to share. Cooking is one of my hobbies, so I really enjoy learning about food from all over the world. Whilst doing this I get to learn about different cultures and languages. Afterwards, I go to my part time job and work until 10pm which provides me with extra spending money.

Saturday

I like to go out with my friends for a few drinks at the various coffee shops and pubs in Buxton. It's a good opportunity to practise my English conversation skills and we also play traditional games such as cards, dominoes or chess.

Sunday

Sunday is the most relaxing day and I often travel places with my friends. I learn more about English history and I try different kinds of foods from all over the world. Buxton is located in the middle of England, therefore, it is an ideal place for tourism activities. Also, our University offers lots of trips for international students some of which are free and some have a small charge.
