I like the University of Derby because it is a very good place to explore and refine your potential,. The University provides the latest industry equipment, which means you have up to date professional experience.

After graduating I intend to gain industry experience, either through voluntary work or employment. I might also consider postgraduate study. I hope to become an audio and video engineer/producer, specifically in the IT and entertainment industries.

I chose Derby because it is a very good University with strong links with different industries. It is also very safe and friendly, and right in the middle of the UK, making it easy to access other cities.

What is life in Derby like for me?

I am now in my third year of study at the University of Derby. I really enjoy it here, and a typical week for me is very busy...

Monday

I get up early, have breakfast and get ready for the week ahead. The location of the University of Derby is good so I don't need any transport to get there.

Mondays are busy as I have lectures from 9am until 5pm, although we do have breaks! After lectures I go home, have a quick snack and then prepare to hit the gym. After 2 hours in the gym I am back home by 8pm. I then have dinner and do a bit of work (reading, research).

Tuesday - Thursday

Most of my week is similar to Monday. The good thing about the University of Derby is that you have lots of lectures to ensure you are studying, and also lots of opportunities for support from your lecturers.

Friday

I sometimes have lectures on a Friday, but they finish early so I hit the University library for some intensive research and study and also to find  books and materials. The library is big and well organised, I spend most of my time in there for any intensive reading and research to avoid distractions, as it is a very good learning environment with dedicated quiet zones

On Friday night I go out in Derby. I have a few drinks with friends, listen to music, dance and socialise. I try not to stay out too late.

Saturday

After recovering from Friday night... its time to do laundry. I also clean my house on Saturday morning and go food shopping. I save a lot on transport as I live just five minutes from town so I can walk in for shopping.

Sometimes I go to the cinema on a Saturday night, or  watch TV or surf the internet. I go to sleep at about midnight.

Sunday

I go to church on Sunday mornings and then go home and relax. Sometimes in the afternoon I will go for a walk in the park or just walk into town to explore the city further. I have an early night on Sunday to prepare myself for the week ahead!
