Apissara Kongthed
Hi, my name is Apissara Kongthed and I'm from Thailand. I'm studying a Masters degree in Events Management at the University of Derby, Buxton.
Before I started my degree, I graduated from Thammasat University (Thailand) with a Bachelors degree in Social Administration. I spent nearly five years working in the service industry including working for an events company which helped me decide to do a degree in this area.
When I decided to do a Masters degree, my education agency recommended the University of Derby, as it provides an excellent events management programme with practical learning methods. I knew that this was the right decision when I had met all of my lecturers, made lots of new friends and walked around the Buxton town.
What is life in Buxton like for me?
Monday
I don't have any lectures on a Monday so I usually spend the day in my house, cleaning my room and doing some laundry. In the evening I cook and eat dinner with my host family. Before the end of the day, I always prepare myself for my classes the next day, by printing the lecture slides and reading through them.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Before class, my friends and I have coffee at the Bistro in the Dome. After the lecture has finished, I might go to my friend's house, where we cook and have dinner together. If we have an assignment, we will go to the library to work on it and stay until the library closes at 9pm.
Thursday and Friday
On these days, I go to University in the morning and spend the day in the library, reading for my assignments. My friends and I have lunch in the Bistro and go home at about 3 or 4pm. In the evening, we might go for a walk in the Pavilion Gardens or go to a local dance class.
Saturday and Sunday
During the weekend, my schedule is quite varied because I love trying lots of new activities such as travelling around the UK or working with the marketing team at the University on open days in the Dome. I often go to Manchester with my friends to do some shopping and have delicious food in China Town. Sometimes, me and my friends go on the trips organised by the University or we plan our own trips as there is lots to do in the region.
On Sunday evening, I call my mum and tell her about my week. Before I go to sleep, I write in my diary or I download all the photos that I have taken during my trips, check my emails and prepare myself for the week ahead.
