Language development sessions

Students talking in the Atrium

Our language development sessions are open to all international students at the University

Undergraduate language development sessions

These free sessions are designed to help you to do better in your undergraduate degree. You can take them at any point during your degree course. They focus on the English language skills which international students need to complete their undergraduate degrees successfully, for example giving presentations or improving your academic writing skills.

Your teacher will discuss with the group which skills you need most practice with, so the sessions give you the best chance of success.

The times and locations of these sessions changes every semester: please contact the International Student Support or p.williamson@derby.ac.uk for details of the next sessions.

Postgraduate language development sessions

These sessions are designed to help you to do better in your postgraduate degree. They focus on the English language and academic skills which international students need to complete their postgraduate degrees successfully, for example how to represent your and other writers' opinions accurately in a literature review, or speaking and listening skills for the viva voce.

Your teacher will discuss with the group which skills you need most practice with, so the sessions give you the best chance of success.

These sessions must be booked through the Research Office.
