Why choose Derby?
The University of Derby is a modern university
Our popularity increases year on year, as do the levels of student satisfaction and attainment. We're ranked in the top three of all modern universities for international student satisfaction.
Our main campus is in the city of Derby and is easy to get to by road, rail and air. We currently have nearly 1,700 international students studying with us from over 100 countries.
We offer a supportive learning environment, providing personal attention to students and deliver learning with a personal touch. We’re a small university and our students really like this. It means they make friends really easily, and their tutors and lecturers get to know them individually. Over 85% of our classes have fewer than 30 students and you have access to your own personal tutor who you can arrange to see whenever you need to - someone who will take an interest in your progress and success.
We have a wide range of courses that you can study and offer traditional postgraduate and undergraduate alongside pre-sessional English and progression courses designed specifically for the international market. You can study full time, part time or, for about 30 of our courses, online. Wherever possible, our courses will be accredited or endorsed by relevant professional bodies.
Employability and careers
Employability is at the heart of what the University of Derby aims to help its international students with, and as a University of Derby graduate you will secure a competitive advantage in the job market.

We can support with developing English language skills and also advise you about working in the UK.

Buxton is a picturesque small town on the edge of the Peak District National Park, about an hour from Derby and Manchester.

Helping you to settle in
Our welcome programme for international students takes place a week before the UK students arrive. You can take part in social and cultural activities, such as a visit to Derby or a tour of our Multi-Faith Centre. During the week you will receive lots of useful information, make new friends, start to find your way around and, most importantly, get answers to all your questions. You can even join us on free trips to London and other local places.
