Learning Beyond Registration

Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is a vital part of developing competent, capable health service practitioners prepared to deliver a dynamic, flexible, quality, client-focused service. If you're employed by the NHS in the East Midlands then you may be eligible for fee-free access to our LBR modules and/or programmes. You'll need to supply evidence of approval from your line manager and Trust Education Lead when you apply.

About this module

This double module provides an opportunity for you to work independently to develop a study of your own choosing (subject to approval). It enables you to explore in detail an aspect of practice that is of particular interest to you as an individual practitioner. The use of a case study or critical incident as a vehicle for critical exploration of current practice in relation to the literature ensures that theory and practice are fully integrated into one cohesive body of work.

The process of developing this study will enhance your ability to work independently through the entire process including undertaking a literature review, reflecting on current practice, planning and developing the study, critically evaluating practice and making recommendations for improvement.

It will enable you to further develop academic skills such as critical analysis, objective evaluation, problem solving and personal reflection. It provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate your creative thinking and organisational skills.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module you will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse and evaluate an aspect of practice
  2. Demonstrate the ability to work independently.

In addition you will be required to formulate specific objectives for your individual work, which will require approval by the Independent Studies Committee.
