Nicki is a qualified careers adviser and experienced manager who joined the iCeGs team as a full time member of staff in July 2009.
Nicki has experience of working with a range of disadvantaged and minority groups including young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, the traveller community, and those from minority ethnic backgrounds. She has developed career learning projects in primary, and secondary schools, with training organisations and in the community and has been involved in developing IAG provision through IAG diploma consortia including approaches to individual learning planning.
Nicki is a specialist in career learning and careers education curriculum development. She has experience in the development and assessment of quality awards for CEIAG. In addition Nicki has experience of developing and delivering both accredited and non-accredited teaching and learning programmes for professionals working in the development and delivery of CEIAG in schools and colleges.
Nicki has held the position of Chair of the Institute of Careers Guidance, Career Education Committee since June 2006 and is an ICG council member. In this role, she acts as a consultant to a number of national groups and organisations.
Nicki's interests have lead her to undertake research in a variety of CEIAG related areas including:
- Primary schools career learning
- IAG delivery across learning communities
- PA training needs analysis
- The quality assurance of the impartiality of schools CEIAG
- The evaluation of careers-related websites
- NEET engagement programmes
- Equality and diversity issues relating to career decision making and progression.
Nicki's current research projects include:
- Student and staff experiences of religion and belief in higher education
- Evaluation of teenage pregnancy preventative activities
- The career learning experiences of young people who are or have spent time as NEET.
