Geoff Bright is an Associate at the International Centre in Guidance Studies. His background is in further and adult education - where he was a Senior Lecturer in Social Sciences - and more recently with Connexions Derbyshire where, since 2002, he has been a senior manager responsible for aspects of social inclusion.
Geoff's role at Connexions involves extensive management and partnership responsibilities. He leads on equality and diversity within Connexions Derbyshire and as such is responsible, among other things, for work on counteracting gender stereotypical choice in career and education. He has recently been seconded to Derbyshire Children's and Young People's Department to lead a Voluntary Sector Equality Champions project.
Geoff is currently completing a PhD looking at young people's experiences of educational exclusion in the Derbyshire coalfield area. He is a an active researcher in the field of ethnography of education having contributed papers to six international conferences during 2008-2010, and is a convenor for the ethnography of education network at the European Education Research Association as well as a peer reviewer for the international journal Ethnography in Education. Geoff is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Education and Social Research Institute at Manchester Metropolitan University.
