Researchers, fixed-term contracts and universities: understanding law in context
Liz Oliver (University of Liverpool) and Tristram Hooley (Head of iCeGS) have recently completed a project examining the response of the higher education section to changes in the law around the use of fixed-term contracts. The project was based on a national review of higher education institutions (HEI) policy around fixed-term employment. This was then followed up with a series of case studies at HEIs which looked at how the policy was working in practice.
The project was funded by Vitae as part of the organisations work in championing the personal, professional and career development of postgraduate researchers and research staff in higher education institutions and research institutes. Vitae is supported by Research Councils UK (RCUK), managed by CRAC: The Career Development Organisation and delivered in partnership with regional Hub host universities. www.vitae.ac.uk
The final report of the project is available to view or download on the Vitae webiste from http://www.vitae.ac.uk/researchers/1272-266531/Researchers-fixed-term-contracts-and-universities-understanding-law-in-context.html
