Career profiles of doctoral entrepreneurs
iCeGS undertook a research project for Vitae focusing on the career histories of doctoral graduates who had subsequently gone on to set up their own businesses. The project was based on 40 interviews with doctoral entrepreneurs. The interviews were published as case studies to use in career education on the Vitae website at www.vitae.ac.uk/docs. The research was also written up as a print publication in Vitae's What do researchers do? series. This publication is available to view online at http://www.vitae.ac.uk/CMS/files/upload/WDRD_entrepreneurs_2010_soft%20copy.pdf
The publication demonstrates how doctoral entrepreneurs have drawn on the skills and knowledge acquired in their doctorates to develop innovative and creative business ideas. Many of these have been developed with strong support from universities and other agencies and argues that it is important that UK higher education continues to find ways to nurture and develop the talent that exists within the research workforce.
