Vitae Storyboarding Project

Storyboarding Workshop

We are inviting researcher-developers to pilot a new career development technique with researchers.

Storyboarding;

-Was developed to enable teachers and advisers to enable clients to manage their careers, and to support clients in the mentoring process.
-Expands the methodological repertoire of careers professionals support for researchers
-Is useful in eliciting and clarifying clients' thoughts and feelings, and leads to a concrete action planning process
-Encourages researchers to think in new ways about their future and career development

Storyboarding has been applied so far in both group and one to one sessions, with group sessions taking slightly longer (around 2 hours) than one to one sessions (nearer one hour). Due to this being an exploratory project (and because we don't yet have all the answers!) some have found it helpful to advertise the opportunity as a pilot session, avoiding the difficulty of fitting it into a pre-scheduled programme.

If you are interested in hearing more please contact Kieran Bentley at k.bentley@derby.ac.uk

On the 10 November 2010 iCeGS held a storyboarding workshop, a presentation from the workshop and material developed by Bill Law and Vitae is detailed below:

Pilot Questionnaires (1) - To be filled out directly after the pilots

Here are the questionnaires to use for those piloting the tools. There is one for Researcher developers/ careers advisors (to be completed online) and another to be printed out and given to researchers. Both are to be completed directly after the pilots have taken place. Please print the researcher questonnaires prior to your pilot, and ensure researchers fill them out. Please collect them in after the session and send in to iCeGS for the attention of Kieran Bentley.

Pilot Questionnaires (2) - To be used one month after the trails of storyboarding

Please be aware that as part of the pilots, we are also administering see 'post piliot' questionnaires for researcher developers and researchers. These are to filled out one month after the pilots, to discover any more lasting effects of storyboarding. We would appreciate it if those researcher developers taking part in the pilots both fill out an 'advisor' questionnaire, and remind and chase researchers to fill out a 'researcher' questionnaire as well.
