Good Timing: Implementing STEM Careers Strategy in Secondary Schools
16 November 2011
Good Timing: Implementing STEM Careers Strategy in Secondary Schools is the final report of a three-year programme of work, commissioned by the Department for Education, and carried out by the Centre for Education and Industry at the University of Warwick (CEI), the International Centre for Guidance Studies at the University of Derby (iCeGS) and Isinglass Consultancy Ltd.
The programme explored the potential to embed STEM careers awareness in the early stages of secondary education. The report describes the research programme which included work with 28 pilot schools, surveys of young people and several workshops and its key findings. It makes seven high level recommendations including focus on school senior leadership and greater involvement of parents and employers in careers work in schools. It concludes with an overview of two innovative planning tools; the STEM Manager, and the STEM Planner, produced in partnership with the National STEM Centre. These planning tools will be found on the National STEM Centre website: www.nationalstemcentre.org.uk .
